I know this post is about NBA stats, but when I read it, all I could think was “psh, tell that to newspaper management all over the country.”
I know this post is about NBA stats, but when I read it, all I could think was “psh, tell that to newspaper management all over the country.”
The thing that leaps out to me here -- and in my own conversations with analytics experts -- is that these guys express *much* more humility about the limits of their models than do a lot of media folks who cite the same advanced stats. No one metric (or combo of metrics) is the be-all/end-all.
I asked the creators of DARKO, EPM, LEBRON, and xRAPM whether it was appropriate for people to use their metrics when debating the MVP and their thoughts about the race more broadly.
