Once upon a time my entire life revolved around politics, I’m much happier now
Okay now we need an inning where both teams score

What I’ve been up to this July (highly performative and ignoring all the boring stuff)

Measles spreading aside, what a wild itinerary for somebody visiting Seattle. The "brewery to spicy Sichuan to gym" afternoon/evening is a bonkers order to hit those establishments in.
Look at how many places this person with measles, an incredibly infectious disease with an R0 of 12-18, has visited over a 4-day span, including SeaTac. And we have an anti-vax crackpot who falsely claims the vaccine is untested and contains fetal tissue running our public health agencies.

I'm voting to make @alexjbond.bsky.social, his family, and no one else build schools. It's about time they got to work!

There is something so sweet about the human capacity for enthusiasm. For a few days everyone in LA has been glued to Watch Duty and getting in the weeds of how water drops work. Now there are people out here who honestly have a favorite water plane that they are following closely and rooting for.

This is a great and well-researched article, but it might not be surprising to many of us. I struggled a lot with loneliness in 2020-22 (I’m naturally an introvert so the pandemic made it easy) and getting back a social life was really important to my happiness, but it’s still not like it once was.
I wrote the latest cover story for The Atlantic. It's about the far-ranging implications of one simple statistic: Americans have never spent so much time alone, and surging solitude is warping our society.

I'm really proud of it, and I hope you read it.

She’s right and she should say it
The development on the next ‘JAMES BOND’ film has been put on hold.

Amazon/MGM want to go in a “Marvel-style” direction with the franchise which includes TV shows and movie spinoffs.

Barbara Broccoli calls them “f—ing idiots.”

For thousands of years, humans have looked up at the night sky with fear, wonder, and the belief that stars were gods, ancestors, or great omens. I think it's kinda fun that the grandeur of galaxies can still evoke that response today

If I were president I would issue an executive order requiring Gus Johnson to call every important game

“We humans make things so complicated. But in that moment, it feels only right to root for the river.”
“Tear down the dams, bring back the river: to me, an outsider, there doesn’t seem to be much not to like…”
Brilliant @jbmackinnon.bsky.social account of the activism for & resistance to the biggest dam-removal project in US history.

Removing dams from the Klamath River in Northern California seems like a clear win for fish and rivers. Why do some locals hate it?
