I've always loved comic sequences showing timelapses of a single location/view, so I was glad @rikworth.bsky.social wrote one into the Rome book. Was fun-strating trying to figure out some interaction across timelines too, with equivalent characters crossing paths etc. for the observant reader.

The same image as previous but with coloured lines connecting the paths of different characters through the scene across time, including a pedestrian, businessman/merchant/patricians, police/soldiers, labourers/plebians (and a cat). In the last panel a man drops a basket of olives, which progressively grows into a large ancient olive tree across the panels.

#MORKTOBER #MÖRKTOBER
The morning light catches on thousands of strands woven between branches. Each thinner than hair and clearer than crystal. They turn the air in front of you into an oil-slick as every colour takes its turn. It has been a haunting walk through a long dark, and this sight is enough to reduce some of your companions to tears. You yourself feel a relief you did not recognise you needed. That there is still something beautiful to be found in this place. Then the wind moves the web, the colours shift and you feel compelled to watch as they shape the faces of friends you thought long lost. They've just been waiting here for you. You can't believe you didn't realise. All this time you've been forcing yourself to keep going when all you needed to do was sit down and wait for your friends to embrace you. Players must beat a presence check of dr14. Those that succeed are able to roll away from The Weaver's pincers at the last second. Those that fail take d6 damage. any who fail by more than 10 are immediately bound in webbing and must pass a dr15 strength check to break free.

NO TIMEWASTERS.” The poster is freshly printed, plastered over three older versions. The money offered increases with each version. You speak to the sheriff, who explains that they’ve had several people claim to have killed Magritte only for the village to find she is alive and well. Tells you they hung the last person who lied to them about it. Magritte can be found in the woods outside the village in a run-down farmhouse with her gang of thugs. MAGRITTE ‘GRIT’ VOORST HP 20 Morale 10 Armour -2 Great Club: d8 SPECIAL: Magritte will heal d3 damage at the end of each round of combat Once separated from her body, Magritte’s head will immediately begin pleading and offering you all of her plunder if you return her head to her shoulders. The head will shrivel over 2 days, eventually going quiet. However, a new head will grow if you don’t burn Magritte’s body. She will hunt her ‘killers’ down to take vengeance.

I think about mentorship a lot (in my own profession & the fields I study), & what strikes me about this thread is that is it focuses on *craft* separate from “how to make a living as an XYZ”

Which I think is a good thing.

My one quibble is about scale & expertise… (see below)

I am mentorship-pilled and I am social practice-pilled. I think it should be the responsibility of any artist who has “made it” in their respective fields/scenes to provide some sort of window into what makes them tick for the sake of benefitting those that are eager to learn.

The great excavation scars one side of the marsh. People with clothes caked in peat and filth pull chunks of it apart with their hands. One of them yells with delight and holds a tusk aloft. The tusk glows in the low light with carved runes. They rush away from the jealous stares of their compatriots to a small hut for weighing, and leave with a jangling pouch. Players may try their hand at the peat-face. If they do, roll on the table below. On a 4-6 the others working the peat will try to rob the players when they sleep. 1 - A sodden three hours digging through mulch finds nothing. But the man working next to you says he knows a place where you can make some coin if you're not afraid to spill a little blood. 2 - One small fragment of tusk, with half a rune carved onto it. You nick yourself on a rock pulling it out, and the rune pulses red for a moment. 3 - The skull looks almost human if not for the two small tusks developing at the front of the mouth. Finding no runes, the Forewoman discards it, but a person wearing a deep hood offers you silver for it. 4 - You see the glow of the runes through the peat before you reach the tusk. A complete rune is prominent on the tusk. On your way to the Forewoman's hut another miner approaches you and says they'll make you a better deal if you follow them now. They will, of course, try to mug you. 5 - Three tusks, each carved with a rune, linked together with what looks like bronze. chains. Holding them, you see the light of the glowing runes match the beating of blood in your veins. +d10 HP while you wear the chain. 6 - You unearth a tusk of unprecedented size. Carved with dozens of complete runes. The Forewoman's eyes widen when she runs out of weights. She tells you to wait for tomorrow when the next payroll arrives.
