observation from teaching is that younger people are too attached to their one original idea they have for a creative project. it's v normal, i remember being like this - i think it has to do a bit with being afraid you wont come up with another idea. but it's important to break out of this mindset

i've been moving in silence the last month and a bit...i have a new comic idea i'm hoping to finish for CALA in a few weeks...we'll see if i can get it done...

this is on thursday! this is a more classic show with more animations, and we've got some real bangers lined up including @sweetstench.bsky.social who is in town for another film festival and we were lucky enough to nab her to show some of her other new shorts! she's been one of my faves for awhile.

I’ve been working really hard on this! I was sick of my super talented, award winning artist friends being broke every month so I wanted to find a way to put my years of web and retail sales to work helping us all, so we can spend less time grinding and more time creating
A Rude Awakening is a collective storefront for six friends and artists living in New York. As the world becomes increasingly hostile to the arts we have come together to make cool shit that will not only sustain us financially but also nourish us creatively

hi here's a thread of some current-day art i like 😋

i'll start with CHIPS by Maddie Brewer, a funny animated series about a woman with cool vibes who gets into intensely violent situations. i love Maddie's distinct scratchy art style and comic timing. excellent action sequences!

ive been kinda warming up to the idea recently of worldbuilding being its own form within itself, that includes using other mediums combined in different ways. think like creepypasta stuff like "petscop" or plastiboo's work. maybe its native home is the internet? which allows it to have nonlinearity

this isn't me answering the question because i don't think it's a hot take lol but social media comics discourse is terrible because it's just people speaking in colloquialisms specific to their scene followed by debate about semantics and anecdotal experiences when the post cross pollinates
Anyone have a particularly hot comic take?

my new doomer observation of trends on social media: people like seeing making-of content of hand made things to prove that it isnt ai. i half get it, some of these videos are v engrossing. but when i get to the final product at the end im like "huh this sucks." almost as boring as ai art lol
