rereading a bunch of leguin hainish cycle shorts right now. i just rly like the POV all her characters have in them. they're all just weird people trying to understand other weird people lmao

i like how archaeologists depict wall engravings, hieroglyphs and stele art. sometimes they fill in the missing details, but sometimes they still leave it ambiguous

been getting back into reading about the silmarillion and other first age tolkien stuff, but immediately gave myself the ick by stumbling upon fanart. it all has this similar digital art glaze to it. it's a "fan art" style - it's like disney meets anime. it bums me out so much.

frog farm mentioned many many times 😎 - mostly for valley valley/idella dell by @audra-stang.bsky.social but also szarlotka by @jas-hice.bsky.social (which technically came out last year, but we did do a big reprint in 2025 because of how well it was received including it getting an ignatz nom)
It's the moment you've been waiting for this holiday season: @comicsjournal.bsky.social is out with a mega-compilation of the best comics and graphic novels of the year. Join me and 30+ other TCJ contributors as we tell you what last-minute books to thrust at people.

CALA was a really pleasant surprise - probably the highest ratio of book sales to shirts and prints. people were out here looking for new comic work to read, not just cool merch.

I was writing a whole diatribe about the unfortunate influx of neckbeardism in our corner of comics but the draft didn’t save. should I try and rewrite it or let this dog lie? lol

is it really powerful and cool of me that I haven’t shared any of my new comic, or is it cowardice? hmmmmm.

The first person we meet on Past Lives is Nanaya'ila'i, an Elamite woman from southwestern Iran who was enslaved around 645 BC by the Assyrians in one of their last campaigns of conquest. What can we know about her life? How did she experience the sharp end of empire? www.patreon.com/posts/nanaya...

observation from teaching is that younger people are too attached to their one original idea they have for a creative project. it's v normal, i remember being like this - i think it has to do a bit with being afraid you wont come up with another idea. but it's important to break out of this mindset
