“Four years after promising $10M for racial reparations, Virginia's Episcopalians have little to show” - reporting by @alejacorazonhm.bsky.social and I

Virginia Episcopalians promised reparations. Progress has lagged.
(RNS) — 'I felt like we were kind of misled as a task force in terms of level (of) engagement', said one member of a reparations task force, of the diocese's efforts.

Ah, a thing I missed: It appears 3 other clergy have joined Rev. David Black as plaintiffs in this case: a Catholic priest, a UU minister and a UMC minister.

And these filings bring the number of clergy who claim to have been and/or have been *filmed* being hit with projectiles shot by ICE/DHS to 6
Huh.

*Real* curious what's in the redacted section of this filing by plaintiffs in the journalist, activist, and clergy-led lawsuit against DHS' treatment of all three groups at the Broadview, Illinois ICE facility. (Plaintiffs have asked it to be un-redacted.) www.courtlistener.com/docket/71559...

Side note: Threats of military action notwithstanding, worth noting that any Christians fleeing religious persecution in Nigeria could not, at present, enter the U.S. as refugees, as the U.S. refugee program has been almost entirely frozen by Trump for months — save for Afrikaners from South Africa.

I’ve reported on Escucha Mi Voz for a while, but I didn’t manage to introduce myself to Fr. Treviño our first time together in person when I covered his appearance at Georgetown. I remember thinking, “I’ll catch him next time.” What a shock that won’t be possible.

Here’s what he had to say then:
Fr. Guillermo took part in recent immigration protests. He was a founding member of and chaplain for Escucha Mi Voz Iowa. Last month he participated in a panel at Georgetown with four Catholic bishops and other Catholic leaders on Trump’s deportation policies.

Extreme heat now kills roughly one person every minute, and about 550,000 a year, finds @lancetcountdown.bsky.social's new report. And scientists warn parts of the world may soon hit limits where it’s too hot and humid for people to survive.

Authors of a new Lancet report warn that parts of the world could become unlivable, as climate change drives a surge in heat deaths.
