The US ATC requires a minimum of one year of college before applying to train and work as an ATC Controller.
Using inflation adjusted college cost, applicants have a 4 times greater barrier to meeting the ATC requirements than in 1981 when PATCO went on strike for better working conditions and pay.

Why are there such counterproductive requirements?
The US ATC workforce is 83% men and 75% white.
The application requirements while not race or gender based, seem designed to select for privilege.
This isn't enlistment, so there are filters even after meeting the application criteria.

Would a former Air Force command center controller, who then got an aerospace engineering degree, before working as a spacecraft flight controller, be a good fit as as an Air Traffic Controller?
No. She'd be too old.
But yeah, it's important to hire people with less experience for some reason?

A lot of age floors for opportunities are bullshit.
Want to be an air traffic controller, but worked your way through school and graduated at 25 debt free, then worked in science for a while before realizing that the ATC would be a good fit?
Fuck you, apply before 31, because at 32 you are old.

Honestly I should have done this before I picked a name that everyone always mispronounces, or lets spell check turn into "Alex".

I use transsexual.
I like that it states that I changed my sex, through my medical transition.
I like that it provides solidarity through terminology with heterosexual/homosexual/bisexual.
I like that it reclaims a term for people like me.
But it is an old term, and has history, not all of it good.

How are we feeling about the word "transexual" to mean a transgender person who undertakes some sort of medical transition?
I have a draft from a freelancer that repeatedly uses "transexual" this way - okay/not okay?

My wife and I have a term "media gaze" to describe the way that movies and shows depict women.
Like the "media gaze doesn't like women, only girls."
Where things like spider veins, cellulite, body hair, and other secondary sexual characteristics of mature women are displayed as though undesirable.

People choose to support sculptr because their support goes directly to helping trans people. That's money for people retaining housing, or meds, or me getting covered in blood when caretaking.

The cancelation offer is particularly egregious: "Offer select members who are cancelling their paid membership a discount on their next month".
Instead of canceling, the cancel option would instead have ads? Nuke it from orbit.

I had turned off these settings before, and apparently they just ignored that during an update.
