Heartbreaking news. I met Rob a few times and he was always kind and supportive. He gave so much to the aviation community (particularly in aerobatics) — even to those of us just starting out. He will be profoundly missed.
Rob Holland, a well-known aerobatic pilot, died on Thursday when his custom-built carbon fiber plane crashed at Langley Air Force Base in Virginia, where he had been preparing to fly in an air show this weekend, according to a statement on his Facebook page.

Gov. Mills showed precisely the sort of integrity in the face of political pressure that the majority of the party currently lacks. More importantly, she did so extemporaneously and without hesitation from a purple state where this isn't a universally popular position.

We started talking about gene expression networks, and all
of a sudden there were these funny little symbols crawling about. They call themselves Booleans.

1. Today the NIH director issued a new directive slashing overhead rates to 15%.

I want to provide some context on what that means and why it matters.

For those unaware, in 1933, the first major Nazi book burning was of the first 30 years of research into trans and queer people, far before the concentration camps.

Now, Trump has digitally burned the government's research on the same.

Make a personal commitment to a practice of kindness today. Donate to an organization that shelters all comers regardless of identity. Put out a bird feeder. Tell someone that you care about them. Clean up a mess somewhere. Tell
someone “I will help” and follow through.

I really should pack up the holiday shrub, but the room will look so much more bleak without it. Late winter really needs another excuse to put up decorations.

deep learning is very nonlinear, and the semester structure is quite at odds with this reality

Did an ugly sweater 5k today. had to run-walk it due to health issues. still grateful to the friend who blew up a childhood of failed presidential
fitness tests by informing me that if i run, i’m a runner, no matter my pace.

Over the Thanksgiving holiday, I had time to read a book. First thing I noticed was that despite having developed the discipline to stop scrolling and go to sleep, I still completely lack the discipline to put down a book and go to sleep. Maybe because there are no ads.
