We met up in the darkest month in Helsinki but luckily exciting project plans and lovely community spirit brightened things up tat our @trees4adapt.bsky.social kick-off meeting. A particular highlight was the first meeting with stakeholders from our Finnish Case Study.

Are we reaching a point where more resources are spent on the funding application process than actual science? Worth reading: www.nature.com/articles/d41...

I have started wondering about this regarding personal and institutional resources but hadn't considered that it might happen system-wide.

Successful day 2 of the Trees4Adapt kick-off meeting in Helsinki! 🌿

We worked on our case studies in Germany, Portugal, and Finland, looking at how more biodiversity, and the right stakeholders, can make real impact.

And yes, we wrapped up with a sauna!

@trees4adapt.bsky.social people - nice opportunity to hear about research closely related to ours, but from another ecosystem!
Does functional community structure mitigate the impacts of climatic anomalies on productivity in grasslands? In our next seminar, @danielahoss.bsky.social leverages 25 years of global grassland data from the sPlot database to examine this question.

I’m also really tired of seeing AI art. I don’t care if your diagram looks ugly or your photo is basic, it is instantly more interesting if it was made by a human!
The amount of AI generated art in slides at this conference, primarily used by older scientists, is killing me. Scientists please. Don’t use these ai platforms to make your figures or slides. They look bad and I have yet to see them meaningfully improve the message of talks.
