New study on arthropod declines @natecoevo.nature.com 🪲

In two time series @jena-experiment.bsky.social & @bexplo.bsky.social we show how community (dis)assembly underpins local biomass declines.

It mostly boils down to species loss, with identity losing relevance.

🌲 Common #biodiversity metrics may miss key signals of change. By partitioning #betadiversity into species loss and turnover, this study from #Sweden shows how #habitatdegradation drives biotic homogenisation across spatial scales.

New paper on assessments of habitat diversity ("Naturvärdesbedömningar") as predictors of red-listed species!

Main results show that these assessments have some merit - but are taxon-dependent and that red-listed species indicate overall high species richness.

Habitat diversity as a taxon-dependent tool for predicting red-listed forest species
Habitat features associated with species niches are commonly used as biodiversity proxies. Such proxies usually describe habitat diversity and have se…

A well-executed study from the Swedish colleagues on the relationship between forest structure and soil fungal diversity. 60 soil cores from each of the 74 sites — what a dataset!
Can you see the forest for the fungi?

Check out our new research examining this in depth in Conservation Biology 💫

*New paper* Denialism campaigns are growing in attempts to discredit science, scientists, and the scientific process generally. Biodiversity loss denial is a new phenomenon that needs our attention.
