I've been on the road so I'm behind the times—but if you wanted to destroy US science, I can think of no more expedient action.

Blatant unconstitutionality aside, fuck this backwards forwards and sideways.

I’m quoted in this month’s AARP Bulletin, which is for people who miss the Parade magazine insert in the Sunday paper. Like me!

Don’t forget to get out today and vote for all the little down-ballot races that matter locally. Like, um, this one.

I was not prepared for the awkwardness of teaching a grad student how to lick and seal an envelope.

One of the reasons I love qualitative research is the high of a really good interview.

I study conflicts of interest. Here’s why RFK Jr.’s approach to the vaccine advisory committee could backfire
Ridding the government, including CDC’s vaccine advisory committee, of industry interests should not play out this way, writes an expert on conflicts of interest.

Having been disappointed in Nvivo for the last time, I’m ready to move my team to CAQDAS that can handle large, multi platform teams and massive data sets. Qualitative folks, what’s your least bad software?

Assisted dying: five questions that need answering before it can work in practice
Legalising assisted dying is one thing. Funding, staffing, medication, legal oversight - that’s the real test.

Had an utterly delightful @skypeascientist.bsky.social with Ms.Davis’s 8th grade class about how you become a scientist and what kinds of questions we ask about aging. Go be curious, kids!

My Endnote library disappeared overnight so I’m waiting for IT to call back so I can figure out if I’m going to still be a scientist or finally take up shepherding.

Had an investigator call with @selenbw.bsky.social and @tina-ann.bsky.social for a couple of studies that genuinely could not happen without their respective skills and assets. I get teary when science actually works. #collaboration #aging

NIH freeze on grants, indirect-cost research cuts lead young scientists to look at opportunities abroad. "A fire sale on American academics right now."
Trump policies spark fears of brain drain, threatening to undermine U.S. dominance in biomedicine
A torrent of Trump administration policies is alarming scientists who fear the current climate is weakening researchers’ resolve to stick with careers in academic science.

a good part of me thinks that in addition to everything else, the reason they are scrubbing these stories is they do not want disadvantaged kids to believe they can aspire to anything other than their designated “black” or “hispanic” or “woman” job
This profile has been scrubbed from the site. Rose Ferreira grew up without reliable electricity, immigrated to NY, then survived homelessness and cancer on her way to NASA. She was so moved by images from the Webb telescope she wept. This is what’s at stake
