enemy that calls its buddies when it's getting hit and can't reach you. you can't kite all of them

also: enemy that kites you. this doesn't solve the problem but it's funny

if you played sonic the hedgehog and put down the controller, sonic would look at you and tap his foot impatiently. this was proof that sega genesis cartridges had souls. the decision was made to make the storage cases a lot larger than the cartridges so they would have room to move around in there

remember how they were going to shadow drop this until geoff gave them a free ad slot and basically demanded they make a trailer? what was supposed to have happened without that? would they have fired everyone after one week instead of two
February 12, 2026 at 8:07 AM
doesn't matter whether the game was "good" or not: management knew it was going to fail, released it anyway, and then fired everyone. insane waste of everyone's time and labour. what happens to the company's remaining assets now?

people weren't hard enough on highguard
Wildlight (Highguard) lays off staff according to a LinkedIn post

"Unfortunately, along with most of the team at Wildlight, I was laid off today.

This one really stings as there was a lot of unreleased content I was really looking forward to that I and others designed for Highguard."

to be clear I'm not saying stoat specifically is the answer (or that there even is one answer), I'm rotating an imaginary thing that fixes all the problems

it seems to me that disconnected servers that just happen to be running similar code are gonna be a harder target than a big network with millions of users all connected to each other (around couple of gigantic central nodes)
February 11, 2026 at 1:46 PM
idk I guess I think multiple-signup overhead could be handled in a different way and servers not exchanging messages with each other isn't actually that much of a problem, compared to the additional complexity Full Federation Everywhere brings in (and imposes on the UX)
February 11, 2026 at 1:45 PM
yeah imo "I can't read my messages" needs to be treated as an issue on par with "attackers can read my messages" but e2ee nerds dgaf seemingly
February 11, 2026 at 1:33 PM
also remember element, matrix, and the matrix dot org homeserver are all UK-based entities (and element is a VC-funded firm that governs the foundation in all but name)
February 11, 2026 at 1:26 PM
tbh I don't see what benefit federation actually gives you with a real-time chat service like this; it works for twitterlikes but here I think it creates more problems than it solves
February 11, 2026 at 1:24 PM
idk I'm not sure matrix is in any stronger a position than stoat honestly. plus their homeserver is atrocious and seems like it's gonna create a lot of potential liability for anyone who federates with them

UK game writer/nds we have a union!

The WGGB provided invaluable support when I was made redundant. A rep was in all my meetings and briefed me before and after. While everything was above board in my case, I did not have to go through it alone.

As a freelancer, they vet my contracts.
This week is #HeartUnions Week, an annual celebration of the trade union movement and what we achieve for our members

Show your love for your union by recruiting a fellow writer or, if you’re a UK writer and not yet a member, it's the perfect week to join!

we have to move on to culture 2. since culture 1 is just at the end of its rope / predicated on regurgitating its own shit back into its mouth forever
Scream 7 teams up with Meta AI and will use generative AI to allow viewers to insert themselves into scenes.
