Here at AiA, we’re all about spreading love of music. But just so ya know where we’re coming from, we’re founded by 2 queer chicks & our team supports equality for all & abhors fascism & bigotry (we luv straight white cis men as long as they aren’t dicks). If you disagree, we’re maybe not for you. 😘

Army Choir surrounded the MAGA hierarchy dining in White House East Room to sing "Do You Hear The People Sing"

It was lost on Trump but Vance was super fidgety

"Do you hear the people sing? Singing the song of angry men? It is the music of the people who will not be slaves again"

My senator! Thank you…we need people to keep talking about this relentlessly.
Tina Smith: "I'm sitting here and I'm thinking about what's happening at the US Treasury tonight, and it seems to be entirely possible that he's trying to distract us all from the ransacking of the Treasury Department's federal payment system that is going on right now under the thumb of Elon Musk."

When I was a Hill staffer in 2009, a Dem trifecta was trying to pass universal healthcare. In response, Senate GOP released a memo detailing all of the tactics they in the minority could use to delay the effort as much as possible. I'm recirculating that 2009 GOP memo here. Take inspiration from it.

Despite her name being misspelled, if Carsie says something, I’m listening.

New article alert, probably our last of 2024! Doyle Turner reviewed Minneapolis singer-songwriter Dan Rumsey’s beautiful new album, which speaks to what’s broken in our current world but offers a redemptive and hopeful glimmer of our promise and what we could become.

Next up at the Aster: Mr. Sam! It’s a rare treat to see this massively talented songwriter and gorgeous vocalist from New Orleans, so if you missed him tonight, do yourself a favor and go see him TOMORROW at Palmer’s!

I cried 3 times—but it was the good kind of crying and I feel rejuvenated.

First up at the Aster, one of the warmest and coziest venues in Minneapolis: Michael Gay! This local artist tells homey, thoughtful and evocative stories about life that are both comforting and thought provoking. A perfect match for the venue and my state of mind.

Next up at the Parkway: Amythyst Kiah! The last time I saw her was with a full band, but tonight was an amazing surprise—a solo acoustic, folky, intimate-feeling show supporting her new album. I wasn’t sure she’d do Black Myself in a solo set but she did and yes, it still hits as an acoustic number!
November 18, 2024 at 4:41 AM
First up tonight at the Parkway Theater in Minneapolis: Annie Mack and Mary Cutrufello! We have only seen them as an acoustic duo once before, years ago, so this short but blazing hot set was a treat we savored every second of!

A great week of music kicks off in just a couple hours. Pretty thrilled about these three lineups!

11/17: Amythyst Kiah , Annie Mack & Mary Cutrufello at The Parkway Theater
11/19: Mr. Sam & Michael Gay at Aster Cafe
11/22: Kelly Hunt & Kelley Smith at The White Squirrel
