Marginalized people with years of experience in community organizing are allowed to give the side-eye to a poorly organized nebulous “movement” primarily comprised of white cis straight able white people with absolutely no transparency about who is behind it.
All the people with takes that boil down to “I am a very serious and smart activist, which is why I’m here to tell you it’s actually bad that millions of people hit the streets yesterday” can go jump in a lake

I dunno y'all, but very little makes me more sceptical about white people's ability to empathize in any way shape or form with the experiences of brown people than watching a bunch of white people talk or write about abuse of power and detentions at the border as if it is a new thing

As heartened as I am by the turnout yesterday I’m equally as skeptical of the #50501 “movement.” How can it be a movement without a coherent list of goals, demands, and consequences?

A thread with a different perspective to mine.
The reason peaceful protests are good actually and burning down a Walmart is bad actually is because eventually this admin is going to turn the fire hoses and dogs loose on people and the vast majority in this country will be fine with it if those people are wearing black bloc and burning cars.

Here’s another one. Peaceful and non-violent aren’t the same thing. If you felt safe and comfortable, you were being permitted by the state to air your grievances.

I’m dying a little inside. If we feel safe and comfortable are we really accomplishing anything? I would submit not. The powers that be are metaphorically patting us on the head and going about their evil

Jefferson County Missouri (very red) held it's Hands off rally on an overpass of hwy 55. Our spirits were not dampened by the cold pouring rain and wind, ~350 folks attended.
It was great to be among like-minded people who want to stop the corrupt authoritarian takeover of our Democracy!
