Alt text is intended to improve accessibility by describing an image for those unable to see it. It's not somewhere for your pithy joke that only works with the added context of the image. In fact, this excludes those unable to see the image even more.

Saw a few posts about stories-preceding-recipes and how that’s annoying, but surely if every recipe site was just a list of items and generic instructions, Google et al would just treat it as keyword stuffing then bury the results?

I suspect the internet isn’t designed to just give you the recipe.
