Alright. I'm going to try to revamp/restart this account. I've had lots of success with an alt meme account and I've neglected this one that was meant to be me.

When Dobbs came down, the media rightly saw it as the culmination of a decades long effort to eliminate abortion rights by the conservative legal movement. When Skrmetti came down, the media blamed trans people and not that same conservative legal machine.

It's the same court and lawyers.

I saw a comment on Reddit that perfectly summed up the issue with the Democratic party right now:

Bluesky is a great site but you have to unlearn EVERYTHING Twitter has ever taught you to make it useable.

Repost yourself. Interact with others. Use tags. Use feeds. Be kind and find kindness. Comment away. It's really really freeing.

The ADHD urge to buy a thing, watch all the videos about the thing, religiously track shipping until the thing arrives, excitedly open the shipping box to get to the thing, and then place the thing somewhere random and forget about it for 3-60 months.

We went birding today and used our new spotting scope: the Vortex Diamondback HD 16-48 x 65. At under $300, this scope is a steal.

Next time, I'll remember to bring the mount for the phone to get more pictures.

The boy (8) is getting quite good at IDing birds, and is even able to ID some by ear.

Not every agency is complying with the unlawful and even more often, pointless, EOs coming out of the White House.

Now, more than ever, we need to help raise up the voices that the MAGA & Elon Cults want to silence.

without em dashes, i’d have parentheses in every sentence (because i am incapable of expressing a thought without additional bonus content)
Just saw a post where someone said that use of em dashes (—) was a giveaway that you're using AI for writing. Uh, no. It could just mean you like to use em dashes.

My 8yo son and I listened to this over about 4 days on the way to and from school. That boy is a true seeker of knowledge.

He's certainly not the target audience, but he found it fascinating. We just started or birding a few weeks ago. I never thought I'd be talking about bird gender with an 8 yo.
On this week's American Birding Podcast: This Month in Birding – January 2025 featuring Rebecca Heisman, Dexter Patterson, and Sarah Swanson, who join host Nate Swick to talk about loons, mosquito killing birds, cold weather birding tips, and much more! www.aba.org/09-05-this-m...

Our oldest (8) has taken to birding. We went to a local park after school a few days ago. He spotted a pair of red shouldered hawks. Now he's asking when we're going out again!

No pics of the hawks, so here is a red bellied woodpecker from a few weeks ago.

The lack of coverage of these protests reiderates that this is going to be a long fight. It is already exhausting. Do what you can. That may be phone calls, protests, or other acts of resistance.

Don't try to do it all. You'll burn out. Do what you can, and be kind to yourself.
The 50 states 50 protests effort was a political lesson for me. Never discount quick anonymous grassroots organizing. In this case, it clearly worked. The protest organization paradigms are shifting. There's a place for quick grassroots efforts alongside organization-endorsed protests.

Alright, I've been on BlueSky for a bit, and I love this platform. So, I started this new account that can be shared with friends, family, and colleagues.

With the world as it is, I may get political. But, this space is also meant to be an escape from the shit-show.

Stay positive, and be kind!
