I don’t know why people are even acting like Edward Sharpe was this big mainstream success. Music execs took a sampling of a few indie groups that were popular with college kids at the time to use as templates for the next wave of radio-friendly acts to push on to people, Sharpe happened to be one
the funny thing to me about "millennial cringe" is the Edward Sharpe/Lumineers stuff was a mutation of what originated in indie music in the 90's with like Neutral Milk Hotel/Elephant 6 & by the time anything resembling that sound became mainstream around 2009 it was already kind of on its last legs

If you’re gonna get depressed about the state of trying to get work in animation, it’s just gonna be a real long haul.
Nobody’s hiring and everyone else is overworking themselves for positions that aren’t there or aren’t being filled.
