Perhaps the coolest thing about Zohran is that his dad is Columbia University anthropologist Mahmood Mamdani. His book “When Victims Become Killers” continues to be one of the most powerful treatments of the Rwandan Genocide I have ever read.

Was very disappointed to see the massive cuts to the #IDRC. Without its support, I would not have been able to do my PhD field research. The IDRC has a proven track record of supporting cutting edge research and building lasting research and policy partnerships with stakeholders in the Global South.

UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and Israel finds that Israel has committed genocide in the Gaza Strip. Excellent summary of the key findings of the report below:
The three most damning paras in the UN Report alleging that Israel is perpetrating genocide in Gaza: Siege starvation, attacks on health care, direct targeting of children as patterns that cannot be explained except if group destruction is one animating purpose.

“And if people want to have fun on the high seas or the low seas.” Lordy, he thinks “high seas” is the water level and doesn’t know it refers to international waters. 🤦‍♂️
Trump: "When I see boats coming in like loaded up the other day with all sorts of drugs -- probably fentanyl mostly -- we're gonna take them out. And if people wants to have fun on the high seas of the low seas they're gonna be in trouble."

The man-made starvation in #Gaza is horrific, inhumane and a blatant violation of the ICJ’s provisional measures ruling and the fundamental principles of #IHL. All restrictions on humanitarian aid must be lifted without delay. Access to food and water are protected under IHL, without exception.

Very pleased to hear announcement of an "immediate and unconditional" ceasefire in Thailand-Cambodia fighting and a pledge to return to normalcy. Also significant to see ASEAN chair Malaysia mediating and brokering the ceasefire, voicing "shared commitment to peace, dialogue and regional stability."

The clashes between #Thailand and #Cambodia are very concerning. At least 33 killed, thousands displaced and reports of a Thai hospital being shelled and use of cluster munitions by Thai military. Need for immediate de-escalation to offset possibility of full-on war.

Trump caught lying again. He’s threatened Thailand and Cambodia with 36% tariffs and has diminished the U.S.’s credibility here. When a ceasefire does inevitably happen, I expect it will be because of an #ASEAN third party involvement - most likely Malaysia.
Fighting flared between Thai and Cambodian troops along the two countries’ disputed border early Sunday despite President Trump saying that the leaders of both countries had agreed to a cease-fire the previous day.
Thailand and Cambodia Trade Fire Despite Cease-Fire Promises
President Trump said on Saturday that both countries had agreed to a halt in the fighting. But on Sunday morning, skirmishes erupted once more.
