Jim Davis was a special person and a very nice man.
Theatre and Performance Studies are delighted to have named one of our studios after our dear colleague Professor Jim Davis who passed away in 2023. His legacy in the department is significant. We’ll raise a toast to officially open it at the end of our 50th anniversary celebrations on 28 June 25.

Look forward to hearing about this research.
We’ve had a remarkable two days at Craig-y-Nos castle assessing the condition of the theatre and its assets. We hope to be able to share our findings through the Society for Theatre Research, who generously funded the work. We’ll use the findings to advocate for funding to conserve the theatre.

Alongside Grit Eckert, I’ve been coordinating a group of experts to visit Craig-y-nos castle this week to consolidate what we know about the theatre, to assess its condition and to plan for its future. Thanks to the Society for Theatre Research for funds and @amateurtheatre.bsky.social for my time.
🎭 Soprano Adelina Patti was born on this day in 1843

She gives her name to a wonderful theatre in Craig Y Nos, which was added to an existing neo-gothic building by the singer and her husband

It is the most ambitious of the UK's few private theatres

Sadly just rubbish in Orleans Gallery now.
No art, no visitors, no coffee & snack, no need to go again.
It’s hard to believe that it is nearly nine years ago since I curated this exibition on the Georgian Garden designer Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown in the main exhibition space at Orlean’s House Gallery. The exhibition was opened by Brown expert John Phibbs and received great reviews.
