I just feel like if we can't at least achieve artificial gravity, we should probably slow down on the Mars colony talk.
Every time I see astronauts floating in a shuttle, I think to myself, "We didn't dog paddle across the ocean..." but Elon et al want to stink up the Red Planet now.

This is so cool. Reminds me that I'll never leave Earth until/unless we reach this level of tech.

Ok, so thanks to a good bud, I'm now back to my original hypothesis that the signal could have been broadcasting for eons. Reminiscent of Contact (1997) in that way. Brilliant little homage, imo.

Also, I think it's interesting that an RNA messenger was chosen and not some sort of DNA manipulation. Because we can do both, here. Obviously not with radio waves but we can do it.
But anyway, RNA messengers create protein bonds, right? So, that signal must have stimulated...

The thing I keep coming back to about Pluribus, besides the maybe millions of years that the alien signal had been broadcasting, is the aberration of the 12 immune individuals.
Much to unpack, both within the context of the narrative and without.

This a big deal: "China’s carbon dioxide emissions have been flat or falling for 18 months"
China's economy has grown by ~5% in the last year, so this comprehensively debunks the idea (again) that emissions are tied to growth. So yes, faster progress needed, but this is how you turn the corner.

The beach landing in Saving Private Ryan is still way intense.
I'm not a WWII historian or like, fan guy, or whatever, but I think it takes some major cajones to keep moving forward in a situation like that.

I think many of us here are in our 40s and above, so let me be the last to say that things start hurting for no reason after age 35.
I'm stretching the like nobody's business trying to figure out what I did to my back. And then I remembered that I'm a 42 year-old man.
Still stretching.

We're seeing rampant nepotism in pro sports, entertainment and media, etc, and I think that is a contributing factor in the decline in quality that we're experiencing.
The hunger to be the best and/or be socially significant—if not infamous—just isn't there, generally speaking.
