New pub: This is a first look at whether sea turtles undergo age-related declines in the number of eggs they lay. Surprisingly, sea turtles can maintain their high reproductive output well into old age. However, the chances of dying do not follow a similar trend, with mortality increasing with age.
Pleased to announce that our paper on aging dynamics in captive green turtles is out (see link below)!!!!

Aging dynamics in captive sea turtles reflect conserved life-history patterns across the testudine phylogeny - Communications Biology
Decades of captive green sea turtle data reveals no evidence of reproductive senescence despite mortality rates increasing with age. These results contextualize age-specific changes in the life histor...

Ariadna Arnau successfully deployed three satellite transmitters on loggerheads at Wassaw Island, Georgia last week. Stay tuned for updates. We are particularly interested in their internesting habitat use and indicators of feeding status.

ACCSTR student Renato Saragoça Bruno found that green turtle diet in Nicaragua has not changed much since the last assessment in the 1980s. And curiously, nesting females in Tortuguero, Costa Rica consume terrestrial vegetation during the nesting season.

Stable isotope analysis of #seaturtle #scutes can lend insight into the turtles' movements throughout the Gulf of Mexico ecosystem. The development of this technique by Bethan Linscott of UF (now U Miami), can increase understanding of habitat use. Cool! #serstm2025
