Currently manifesting a dues ex machina—join me, won’t you? Until then, our outrage feeds it; our contempt and ridicule hurts its feelings. I block ALL Nazis (aka, MAGA)
Pinned
Remember: it feeds on our outrage.

But our contempt and mockery hurts its feelings
Unlike the Germans of the 20s and 30s—who were dealing with hyperinflation, massive unemployment and the humiliating loss of WWI and its reparations—those today who are susceptible to fascism are suffering only from grievances, nearly all of them fantastic.
One of my best friends is from a sleepy, wealthy small town in the south-west of Germany. He said, so many of my parents’ neighbours are rich and bored, with little to complain about, and they’ve radicalised themselves at dinner parties and online. In their aimlessness, they’ve bonded over hate.
This isn’t some rant saying “Germany has learned nothing from its past” - the reality is more subtle than that. Middle-class Germans live and travel with an incredible amount of ease and comfort, and they just got…sleepy. Many of them dismissed the far-right’s rage as just another set of complaints.

Just finished “in the Garden of Beasts” about the US Ambassador to Germany and his family in 1933-34 during Hitler’s rise (fascinating) and just starting “The Splendid and the Vile” about Churchill during the Blitz.

From Tombstone (1993)

Wyatt Earp:
What makes a man like Ringo, Doc? What makes him do the things he does?

Doc Holliday:
A man like Ringo has got a great big hole, right in the middle of himself. And he can never kill enough, or steal enough, or inflict enough pain to ever fill it.

We’re just entering the 1933 phase of Nazism. Lawlessness becomes the law. Musk’s Brownshirts will enforce it. Intimidation has begun. Violence will soon begin.

These guys are exactly like the Storm Troopers (Brownshirts) in Nazi Germany. Their intimidation tactics will become bolder over time.

Can we do this?
I'm interested in learning more bout Otpor! the Serbian movement that used nonviolent mockery to bring down Slobodan Milosevic. I remember they used street theater and protest rock, really got under his skin, and they were very strict about focusing only on him or those close to him.

This is hilarious. Philip Bump blocked me. This is partly why we’re where we are. Legacy journalists cannot tolerate feedback from the public that is not praise. Thin-skinned and lacking self-reflection. Just a reminder—the legacy media will not save us.

A branded villain.

If you really want to, well, be simultaneously amused and terrified, go to “X”. It is a complete sewer. Those people are drunk with “power” and completely delusional. They have been so utterly lied to for years that they will believe anything.

This is going to a tough thing to battle.

Turns out Kristi Noem is very disappointed with being confirmed as DHS Secretary. She thought the job involved battling terriers.

The good news is if we are attacked by a hoard of puppies, Noem will be on top of it.

He haunts nearly every aspect of our lives. We have to strive to keep our heads above the murky waters for the next four years.
The sorrow that accompanies Trump's rise is profound, as it has shattered my faith in my family, friends, and fellow citizens. I cannot comprehend how anyone can observe his conduct, acknowledge his criminal convictions, and still support his claim to the White House.
