A delightfully unique list, mercifully devoid of broad pontificating in its intro & so grounded in Jake's perspective. Such a fun read. That said: most of these games sound miserable

I am going to try out the following Prime ranking and see how it feels:

Finished Prime 4 a second time! I feel like the game is more in focus now. It's a great replay, when you have a clear route and an understanding of Beyond's rhythm. I love the Legacy Suit and was careful to chart a path through the late game that let me wear it as much as possible :))

In the spirit of metroid being about isolation heres the take that none of my fellow fans agree with:
We've done Dread. Prime 4. We banked that legacy goodwill. Now make the linear metroid campaign fps with arena shooter multiplayer that ive always wanted

Further: of the non-Nintendo games I'm looking forward to im 2026 I can get most of them on Switch 2 now. RE9, Pragmata, 007 First Light, Lego Batman. Ideally Marathon & SW Galactic Racer I can play on Steam Deck. All will be forgiven when Intergalactic comes out though
I had to lug my PS5 to my parents' house over the holidays which led me to vindictively tabulate the number of games I've played on the PS5 since launch that meaningfully justified me buying that ugly honking console and the answer is less than 10 and most I could now play on Steam Deck or Switch 2

It's funny that all of the Nintendo YouTubers accused of negativity grifting are making the exact same content as the "good" channels (sales numbers videos, daily news discussion, system-seller discourse, rumor-mongering) but they just reach the wrong conclusion so everyone hates them

Re that Prime 4 famitsu interview: feels like cope to say that Beyond is flawed because Retro was beholden to what (presumably) Bandai Namco was cooking. But I do wonder what a truly modern Prime would be like considering Nintendo says 4 isn't up to modern genre convention
