Author of fantasy, sci-fi, horror, and occasional rants on random subjects. Probably slightly fae.
If you love going into libraries and book stores, what is it that you like about it?
What things do you notice most?
Do you get what you came for and leave, or do like to longer?

How do people write books on their phones??
The most I can manage is impassioned social media rants 😜

Ah! That age old struggle between writing the story since I've had it in my head for literal years and I might as well just get it onto paper, and waiting until I do the research that I know I need to even though it probably won't effect the action significantly.

Of all Jane Austen's characters, I feel like the Collinses would be most likely to show up in a Dickens book

Are you really a book lover of you don't love all books equally??

Hot days are here again (VERY hot), but these roses from up the street are filling the air with fragrance so it's not all bad

Happy Independence Day, my fellow Americans!!

✨🇺🇸✨🇺🇸✨🇺🇸✨🇺🇸✨🇺🇸✨

And to everyone else, Happy July 4th and Friday! You might not get an awesome summer holiday, but I hope you still have fun 😁

Went to the Bosque this morning. It was hot, but I didn't die this time because I cooled off by wading in the river.
Very pretty.

There were itty-bitty toads! I caught one and we hung out for a while! (No pics, alas)

Readers who prefer first person POV:

What is it that you like about it? Is it enough to make you DNF a third-person book, and if so why?

What's everyone up to this weekend?

I'm editing stuff, posting that article, editing more stuff, reading lots of books, trying unsuccessfully to avoid people, and editing stuff.

I read a long chapter of something last night and it was so strange and interesting and immersive that getting back to the book is all I can think about today.
Strangely, though, it's not interfering with my writing. It's just a constant hum of "I want to read more!"

Books are cool.

Literary symbolism can be fun to dissect in a sociological way (figuring out what unconscious layers an author adds and the cultural things that led to it). But only intentional symbols are worth paying attention to in books, because they were chosen to add something to the text.

Not mermaids, but so gorgeous and oceany that I'm sharing it as a MerMay find!
Illustration I painted for Lore of the tides by author analeigh Sbrana you can get this artwork as an overlay when you pre-order the book (link in her page).

One of my favorite piece I did this year but also one of the most challenging.

It's a gorgeous spring day, birds are singing, flowers and blooming, bees are humming, it's not too hot. Perfect!

I was sick for two solid weeks and could barely write anything, but somehow I feel so much better now and have written about 3000 words since Monday.

We are SO back!

With everything that changes and shifts about humanity, it's interesting to notice things that remain the same — the solid FACTS like death and love and hunger and dreaming

Yay! MerMay sketches! 😍

Spicy take: We need to get back to having normal, average everyman protagonists who experience the craziness and excitement of a grand adventure but aren't necessarily the hero.

Dreamed about traveling to the mountains again.
Obviously this means I should shortly throw a lavish birthday party, subtly insult my friends and family, then vanish spectacularly leaving behind some cursed jewelry for everyone else to take care of.

I was listening to my happy Easter playlist as I finish this article and really not feeling it, so now I've changed to Bach.

Much better!

Words I cannot for the life of me remember how to spell:

Asparagus
Effect vs affect (I know, I know...)
Compliment vs complement
Publicly

Doesn't matter how many times I look them up, it doesn't stick!

I have been struggling with fatigue this week. Just doing my normal thing, and then towards evening, when my night-owl self usually perks up with extra energy, I'm ready to crash.
Terribly awkward, since I have lots of stuff I still need to get done 🥱

One thing I wish Tolkien had done more of in LotR is continue the thing about you still casting a shadow if you're wearing the Ring in broad daylight, besides being invisible otherwise.
Characters don't often wear it in LotR, but it's still an interesting detail that could have been explored more.

I really want to start four new books today, even though I haven't even finished my ongoing books 😭

Three of the four are really thick too.

On the plus side, really thick books make for comfy pillows while you're reading the other thick books.
