Writer, addicted reader and climate activist, I live in San Francisco. Bluesky has helped me come to a reckoning with Trump and the 77 million Americans who voted for him. Books are my refuge, writing is my release. https://daverhodywriting.wordpress.com

Mass shootings continue unabated - and a federal court just ruled that California's ban on open carry is unconstitutional, citing an earlier Supreme Court ruling.

Indeed.
If Trump claims he had the right to kidnap an authoritarian president elected in dubious circumstances, by the same reasoning, another country could do the same to him.
Even if Trump’s attack on Venezuela and kidnapping of Maduro somehow led to a positive impact on Venezuela’s future, it would not make these actions by the United States legal, moral or wise.

Normalising and legitimising this behaviour endangers all countries - democracies and dictatorships alike.

HCR does an amazing job of describing what are essentially the bookends of U.S. politics. One one end, the young progressive Mamdani promising to be a mayor to all New Yorkers. On the other, a vindictive old man using his presidential power to enrich himself. open.substack.com/pub/heatherc...
