A few days ago it was balmy enough for the chipmunks to be out and about. Chipmunks don't hibernate but instead go through a process called "torpor" where their metabolism slows down, but unlike a hibernator they will wake up every few days to eat from their food cache.

October highlights... also from the wonderful local Hockeridge Woods. The mushrooms were incredible, but so were the trees. It's so lovely to spend time in forests, especially when they're a 15 minute walk from your new house :)

Large grey beech trees - looking a bit like elephant legs, with autumnal leaves around and a floor of orange fallen leaves. Good morning from a chilly but sunny Tokyo. Last day of the year. Been up doing household chores for a while. Gonna sort out my pics from yesterday now. Post a few. And have a chilled day. Going for a drive later with the kids. To find a quiet, pretty temple by the coast to see in 2026.
