Hello new folks! Thanks for stopping by. Sometimes I post about biochemistry, but it’s mostly cats/classical music/books/things in my garden here. Live from Cornwall. Beardy, generally worn down by academia.

Some fascinating associations here. I wouldn't necessarily have expected Norwegian Progressive Intellectuals, the British Wildlife and Birding Community, Everton Football Club Supporters, & Queer Leftist Artists and Shitposters to group together, but doubtless the world is a better place for it.

I know you're all excited about the luge at the moment, but this is very good. Jurowski's Mahler 9 with the LPO - a live performance from 2022, but I don't hear any bronchial interruptions from the audience. The adagio canters along - under 23 minutes, but slow enough when it needs to be.

(It'd have to be quite a short section, obviously)

I'd like to see luge combined with author reading for literary types.

You’d think so, wouldn’t you?

You never know who'll you find, do you? I've caught hedgehogs on several occasions. (And a gull once 😬).

Stout footwear needed.

Afternoon ramble. It’s not raining!

A couple of years ago I saw a young fellow reading one of Archer's novels on a bus in East Lansing, Michigan. Needless to say, I had questions.

30 years ago I caused Clive James to duck due to a careless frisbee throw on Parker's Piece, Cambridge.

Exactly. Jellyfish may not be advanced organisms, but they're just as highly evolved as anything else.

I moved back to the UK from the US in 2022. I banked with a credit union there, whose automated payment system consisted of a teller writing a cheque and mailing it to the utility company.

I'm disappointed that no-one's mentioned adverse camber yet.

Evening

Mike Tyson went to the White House VIP launch of the film, I'd love to know what he thought of it.

Before he was neutered he would sit on my neighbours' doorsteps and chase their own cats away. He really wanted a home, I guess.

This is stray boy Edward Fleas, who terrorised the village before I was able to catch and neuter him. He was such a bad cat! He's moved in with me now, and swears he's a reformed character (- he mostly is).

I left the US (and US academia) in 2022. At the time it was hardest decision I'd ever made...now I look back with some relief. Solidarity.

Is the ZooMS annotation using the collagen sequence? Possible for that to be incorrectly annotated of course, but I wonder how similar i.e. red deer collagen is to roe.

haha, the possibilities!

Coincidentally, OR IS IT?

Yes, many things are terrible, but here’s Mini with his dad.

I had haggis out of a tin! (I'm not proud, but it was tasty enough).

Methane on Titan!

I'll grab a copy of Fernseed if still available?

George Smiley's let himself go.

That's an interesting article, thanks. As a non-driver I rely on the railways a lot to get around the southwest. The forthcoming Mid Cornwall Metro service in Cornwall is a rare bit of good public transport news for the county.

Exactly. As someone who relies on rail services to get to and from London, Dawlish can be a problem.
