I love nature and the challenge to understand how all its bits and pieces interact to form an ecosystem - including how we as humans shape and relate to nature. Here we are at Senckenberg: www.senckenberg.de/en/institute...

@annarl.bsky.social used the interaction functional space combining plant and animal #traits to show that the recovery of functional diversity of seed-dispersal interactions is delayed by about 20 years after deforestation @reassemblynet.bsky.social 🧮➕📏

Delayed recovery of seed-dispersal interactions after deforestation
Landim et al. show that seed-dispersal interactions require about two decades to functionally recover in tropical forests in Ecuador, but the recovery time of seed-dispersal functions is delayed in pa...

Happy to share this important study by @annarl.bsky.social using her newly collected data in Ecuadorian Chocó forest @reassemblynet.bsky.social and a Bayesian model to estimate the recovery time of seed dispersal by animals after deforestation 🧪🌎
Excited to share that the second paper of my PhD is out in @currentbiology.bsky.social 🍈🦜🍒🐒🍊🐿️

We show that the functional diversity of seed-dispersal interactions in tropical forests takes circa 20 years to recover after deforestation.

Happy to share that the first paper of my PhD is out!

We developed a trait-based framework 🌱🦜 to quantify how plant-frugivore interactions and animal movement shape plant functional connectivity—the dispersal of seeds between habitat patches.

We simulated how avian seed dispersal shapes connectivity b/w forest patches. What really matters: fruit diversity increases dispersal, especially to distant patches. A complex simulation by @annarl.bsky.social with implications for #rainforest recovery 🌐🧪🌎 #Reassembly #ProcB doi.org/10.1098/rspb...

Trait matching between interacting bird and plant species is widespread globally! Yet its importance for avian seed dispersal is not just about complementarity among consumers but it depends on the resource traits in a community 🧪🌐 Now out in Ecology Letters: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...

I enjoyed some great discussions about the ecology of protea plants (and the manifold links to their animal partners) in the Western Cape over the last week. It's just such an amazing team and great place to work 🇿🇦 #ProteaChange

Can you please add me? Thanks!!

The first pygmy cormorants have
bred in SE Germany in 2022 and they continue to expand. Similar trends occur for many other cormorant species globally, likely due to higher food availability and better legal protection. This first year bird is the first at my local patch in #Mainz. Success stories!

Can we use tree-related microhabitats (TreMs)🌳 as indicators of #tropical #biodiversity? Thanks so much for this great contribution to the C&S section of Ecological Monographs! Charlotte's paper was actually one of our first invited contributions to this section. If you have cool and innovative ideas like this one, please have a look: www.esa.org/wp-content/u...

Please add me, Emilio. Thanks!
Tree-related microhabitats (TreMs) 🌴🌳are important for #biodiversity, and particularly diverse in the #tropics.
