#ERSNew 🐣🔓This multi-method empirical study among 862 people from racialised communities in Australia highlights how structural and psychological factors create barriers to speaking out against racism. Article: doi.org/10.1080/01419870.2025.2508393

The study argues that the current system for reporting racism is not working well for the communities who need it the most.

Not questioning that racism against different groups can manifest differently. But if we are blind to the common underlying system of racism, we will not make progress towards dismantling systems of racism and superiority, but get caught up in and distracted by 'victimisation hierarchies'.

Racism creates and cements a system of superiority claims and an unjust hierarchy that denies the fundamental principle of equal human dignity.

If in our attempts to address racism we apply different standards depending on what group we're talking about, we fall into the same 'hierarchy trap'.

Panel discussion 'Democracy in Danger' in Australia, but I'd argue the situation elsewhere is often so different.
(...and yes, I'm also not happy with the 'demographics' of the panel, including myself - it was raised beforehand. We must do better!)

A super-short summary of 'Democracy Strikes Back'.
We need to acknowledge what makes far-right groups appealing if we're going to effectively tackle them, argues Mario Peucker. A part of this is removing the dichotomy between "us and them", positioning the far-right as a fringe movement on the edges of society.
