Always curious, renouncing boredom.

Law 35%
Political science 28%

Wishing to those in @ucisocialecology.bsky.social who celebrate a happy Passover and meaningful Palm Sunday. "May we dedicate ourselves to the abolition of all forms of tyranny and injustice."

If there's one thing I know from reading Machiavelli, it's never to give in to a bully when they're losing support and perceived strength.

Finally, given that this administration has just drained 10% of the stock market's value in two days, its legitimacy and perceived power among the moneyed class has just dropped. That latter group is called clients for many of the big firms.

Second, there is a competitive advantage in challenging the Administration here. The firm of Jenner & Block has advertised this best when it says, "clients deserve fearless advocates." If you're up against the government in a case, do you really want a lawyer so willing to fold?

First, obviously, if lawyers won't stand up for the rule of law, who will?

However, fewer than eight of those signatories are among the Am Law 100, the largest, most powerful firms in the country. This is a mistake by those firms -- for three reasons.

You may have read congratulatory stories about how 500+ law firms have signed onto an amicus brief supporting the law firm Perkins Coie, which is challenging the Trump Administration's politically charged executive order.

Why do we need universities? So someone using a discredited theory cannot singlehandedly siphon off 4% of your retirement savings in a one-hour period.

Happy Purim to those who celebrate. A reminder that right can overcome might.

It's as simple as this.

Worried about the direction of things? Then, help provide direction, support and encouragement to the next wave of potential leaders. Thanks Assmb. Petri-Norris for the invitation to be the keynote speaker at your Future Legislators Program. To paraphrase an old song, "the[se] students are alright."

This year's School of Social Ecology booth at the University of California, Irvine Homecoming celebration from 2-6 p.m. Saturday in Aldrich Park is destined to be a cereal thriller!

The view from the back wall of my office. On this date 35 years ago, Nelson Mandela was released from prison. If he could survive 27 years in an Apartheid prison and go on to bring peace, our work is possible, too.

Feeling lost in the wilderness? Don't. Focus on what you can do that's realistically within your powers. Then seek out others to join with you. You're going to need balance and perspective.

The Alec Glasser Center for the Power of Music and Social Change at UC Irvine recently introduced its leadership team (from left): Michelle Ly, Richard Matthew, Wendy Misner, Alec Glasser, Stacy Skwarlo and Anna Kamanzi. For more about them, visit tinyurl.com/PoMleaders

If you want to change the dynamics of criminal justice politics, track the future offending histories of the January 6th conspirators that Trump recently pardoned. It would be interesting to watch Democrats run a soft on crime campaign against Republicans, who supported the pardons.

Today, Orange County Fire Authority Chief Brian Fennessy performed the in-district swearing in of @daveminca.bsky.social. I was pleased to attend on behalf of @ucirvine.bsky.social and @ucisocialecology.bsky.social.

This was the same finding in Orange County, California in the poll conducted by @ucisocialecology.bsky.social.

For those in need of some cheering up, Wrigley here is always up for visitors.

Huge day for us in @ucisocialecology.bsky.social. As the @ocregister.bsky.social reports, this endowment is "one of the largest-ever gifts to the university by an individual." We look forward to the research, teaching, engagement, and celebration to follow.
UC Irvine today announced a significant donation from philanthropist and businessman Alec Glasser that will allow the School of Social Ecology to fully endow the Center for the Power of Music and Social Change, which will positively impact lives for generations to come. tinyurl.com/AGpomgift

We in @ucisocialecology.bsky.social are heartbroken at the destruction wrought by the fires in Los Angeles County. Students whose families are affected should reach out, respectively, to our undergraduate and graduate affairs teams, who can direct you to support and assistance.

Watch out world, I have a new toy.

The shortest day of the year has come and gone. In memory of my father, who always remembered the solstice, wishing you brighter days ahead.

Very proud of our new alumni!
Congratulations to our graduates at this morning's commencement ceremony at the Bren Events Center. #AnteaterPride #zotzotzot #classof2024

If Beyoncé is the Queen, does that make her father the king? @ucisocialecology.bsky.social was delighted to host Matthew Knowles today. Interesting possibilities going forward....
