Beyond Proficiency: Rethinking Preparedness in English‐Medium Instruction
This article challenges the assumption that EMI success depends mainly on students' English proficiency. Drawing on East Asian contexts and my own trajectory as a researcher and practitioner, I argue...

One of the many reasons I love living in London. I get to see amazing people more often as they come through! From the US, from Hong Kong - keep coming back, friends!

I’ve so enjoyed being back in Japan since mid-April, but alas, my time is coming to an end and I return to London on Saturday. I’m always grateful that I can spend time here. Huge thanks to Waseda University’s Institute for Advanced Studies who hosted me!

Photos from the Future of English project on Online Behaviour in EMI last week at Waseda University. I miss everyone! Sad our 3-year project is coming to an end…

A few more photos from #AAAL2025 -it’s been great catching up with friends, colleagues, and the latest research!

Some more #AAAL2025 day two photos… full day!

Good morning, Denver! Ready for day 3 of #AAAL2025

#AAAL2025 day two morning photos. Making up for lost time!

I made it!! #AAAL2025 from tomorrow!

I’m getting there! Changing planes in Houston! #AAAL2025 better late than never…

For those who missed it, Heathrow was closed yesterday and all flights cancelled due to a fire and power outage. I couldn’t get the direct flight today so I’m on my way to Houston to connect, but at least I’ll get there eventually. I’m so sorry for all my colleagues who had to cancel.

Well, I’ll get to Denver for #AAAL2025 32 hours later than planned but I’m on my way! So disappointed to miss our Global Englishes and TESOL colloquium at 8am on day one but at least I’ll be there for day two!

For those at #AAAL2025 consider starting day one off with us! Global Englishes and TESOL 2-hour colloquium…
