I was excited to travel without having to take my shoes off but apparently I was randomly selected to take them off. So I was the only person in the security line with my shoes off, looking like a weirdo in TSA.

@ibramxk.bsky.social thank you for stopping in Lansing!

I enjoyed listening to Dr. Kendi last night in Lansing as he discussed his newest book, "Malcolm Lives!" It was a great discussion about a great book. I highly recommend checking it out!
Even common plants with broad-scale distributions are going to feel the effects of climate change. We modeled plant responses using species distribution modeling and demographic surveys to find that B. stricta is at risk of decline. @science.org

Adaptation and gene flow are insufficient to rescue a montane plant under climate change
Climate change increasingly drives local population dynamics, shifts geographic distributions, and threatens persistence. Gene flow and rapid adaptation could rescue declining populations yet are seld...

Science funding is not government waste - see my opinion piece in the Lansing State Journal about why cuts to science funding are bad for Michigan. @sciencehomecoming.bsky.social www.lansingstatejournal.com/story/opinio...
Viewpoint: Scientific research is not waste. Funding cuts will harm Michiganders, economy
In 2024, over $1 billion in NIH funding went to Michigan, supporting $2.57 billion in economic activity, according to United for Medical Research.

I took a plant anatomy course with John Sperry and loved every minute of it. It led me to study plant biology for my PhD

Here's the view now that we have landed. The game was in its final moments of the quarter so no one was rushing for the door.

Flying into DTW while the Lions are playing is a treat. The plane collectively cheers (and boos) while watching the game live.

Yay! Our paper is out! We evaluated the effects of elevated CO2 and temperature on ecophys and fitness in Boechera stricta. We found increased CO2 augmented gas exchange but this didn't translate to a fitness increase. We also saw a shift in fitness landscapes!

I'm so excited come work with you and everyone else at the PRI!

I see pictures of cats on laps when people are trying to work. I don't have a cat, but I do have a coloring Kindergartner.

Once, one student went off about how he was the most likely of his friend group to commit medical malpractice. He then explained all the ways he had been sliding through his classes. I made a mental note to never see him as a doctor haha

I just joined Blue Sky and am excited to join the plant sciences conversation! #HelloWorld #IAmaBotanist
