New season soon, so time for a Frieren rewatch. And one of my favorite things remains, as spouse phrased it, "The Zatoichi of it all." Gosh, that elven mage couldn't possibly be Frieren from the hero's party, right??

THERE ARE CANONICALLY EXTREMELY FEW ELVES!!

Oh shit, it's Zatoichi!

What's most impressive is Zatoichi cut the headband in two places with one slice. #GHWP

This week on Scared Straight, Zatoichi slaughters a dozen Yakuza in front of a "tough" farm boy to convince him to go back home. #GHWP

We kick off the epic Zatoichi The Blind Swordsman boxset this week, a 25-film collection that we will be covering 3 films at a time so that we don't spend six months talking about them.
Spine 679: Zatoichi the Blind Swordsman Disc 1 | Lost in Criterion
Oh boy. Sometimes the Criterion Collection hears a whiff that there's two guys doing a Spine Number podcast and says to themselves, "What can we do to mess this up?" Normally, within the Collection, a...

Zatoichi and the Chest of Gold (1964) On their way to pay an overdue tax debt, farmers are robbed of their fortune. Zatoichi was spotted close by and is blamed. To clear his name and right the wrong, he vows to retrieve the money. Shintarô Katsu plays the blind swordsman for the 6th time

I remember liking Kikujiro, and his version of Zatoichi was pretty good.

It seems the long lost Chinese ending of ZATOICHI MEETS THE ONE-ARMED SWORDSMAN (1971) was screened last year with I assume Wang Kang winning. I wish I could have seen it, but I’d prefer a 3rd ending where Zatoichi and Wang Kang walked away as friends.

Watching film 22 in the #zatoichi series, ZATOICHI MEETS THE ONE-ARMED SWORDSMAN (1971), starring Shintarô Katsu and Jimmy Wang!

Less than halfway through the Zatoichi boxset and I already regret not building a string-covered wall to keep track of recurring characters and relationships.

As far as I'm concerned, there's only one way to say,

"FIGHT, ZATOICHI. FIGHT.

You'd dig both the Zatoichi and Lone Wolf and Cub series.

i watched The Tale of Zatoichi last night and i've been thinking about this scene a lot. silence and long, unbroken shots...i think some time alone with nothing but the grass and the water would do my mind a lot of good

I attended a school for the blind, so I have a different perspective on this story.
However, this may be what Japanese people think of when they hear "Zatou."
At least, I have never heard of "Umizato."

I did well on the Zatoichi set. Got it for 100, sold the DVDs for 60 bucks and kept the blurays and the box.
