Chickadees are so lovely. I was whistling with this one and it tried vocalizing while eating a seed and the call came out so funnily, just like a person talking with their mouth full. Made my day. Love you.

The other day in the trees (on the forest floor I mean) there were some delightful lichens and stumperies (no good pictures of the stumperies alas). Pretty amazing world in the understory. #boreal #lichen #yukonterritory 🌱

This is a young hare seen last month. It is still brown, but will turn white when the snow falls because hares are geniuses. This is a very plump Arctic Ground Squirrel, calmly looking at the camera and not at all bothered by me. This one was seen near Kluane Lake in an area frequented by people, so it was used to posing for pics. I hope it had a wonderful fall and winter.

A small bird, mostly greyish brown and speckled with lighter feathers, I think it is a Pine Siskin. It is holding onto the branch of a spruce tree and pondering the deliciousness of seeds. A small speckled brownish gray bird with some lovely yellow under the wing feather is eating on a bird feeder. A Pine Siskin, maybe thinking about why the red squirrels keep biting each other’s tails. A Pine Siskin, freckly and speckly greyish brownish, standing on a spruce branch.
