The strategy to win at block blast is also the way to win at writing. Instead of trying to fit all the pieces perfectly you strive for more points or more pages on your manuscript. #wip #workinprogress #writing #writingsession #writinghacks #blockblast

We often think that every word we write in our manuscript needs to be perfect. Yet as I look back to my journal, I can see there are moments of inspiration between long bouts of the ordinary. #wip #workinprogress #writing #writingsession #writinghacks

This is what it feels like to go through writer's block. You have to keep going, but you don't really want to. #wip #workinprogress #writing #writingsession #writinghacks

When you're getting critique, do you try to defend your work or do you stay silent and accept the criticism? When your writing is published, you cannot be out there defending it. It has to stand on its own. #wip #workinprogress #writing #writingsession #writinghacks

Once again it’s takes being trapped in a dark room watching a demented patient for me to finish my plot points for my fic.

Tuesday writing hack that changed my life:

Write with your non-dominant hand for 5 minutes.

Forces you to focus on getting words down vs making them perfect. Plus everything looks equally terrible so your critic has nothing to judge 😂

Try it!

5/ Other ways to outsmart your inner critic:

- Write in weird places (bathroom, car, standing up)
- Set 10-minute timers (too short to judge)
- Write with wrong hand (forces focus on getting words down)
- Voice memos while walking (critic can't keep up)

2/ Your brain has two modes: Create and Judge.

They can't run simultaneously.

When you sit down to write, your judging brain immediately starts: "This is terrible. You have no talent. Delete it all."

The trick? Write when your judging brain is too tired to function.

Do you ever sometimes go into default mode or a trance when you are working on your manuscript? It is a sense of being in the present moment. There aren't any new ideas generated, but it's not an unpleasant feeling. #wip #workinprogress #writing #writingsession #writinghacks #writingabook #writing
