#Writetip: You cannot publish your first draft. I don’t care who you are. But once that first draft is written, you can edit, rewrite and polish until it IS ready to be seen by an outsider. And after an editor has finished with it then you can look at publishing.

#Writetip: The 3rd option is "third person limited" Only one character’s thoughts and perspectives at a time. When it shifts, it’s like handing a camera to another character. “He did this, she did that, but he wasn’t sure why she did what she did.”

Fortunately there is a third option. Get help.

#Writetip: Take the time to figure out who your characters are. There will be a lot of information that you will know about them that will never make it into the book. You need to know who they are and what they’ve been through, even if the reader never finds out.

My advice:

To become a successful writer, spend 2 years working at bookstore (to learn the market and to learn what readers want) and 2 years in a news room (learning how to type fast and how to write prolifically on difficult deadlines). Then start writing your novel.

#Writetip: If you can't stay away from the internet when the words aren’t flowing, try turning off the connection on your PC or laptop for a set period of time while you write. Alternatively, it may be time to invest in something that cannot go online.

The most brilliant book ever written won't benefit its author if readers don't find it. Here are some keyword tips to keep your novel on top of search results. https://buff.ly/3GXnNMt #bookmarketing #authortips #writetip #writerslife #writingcommunity

Sit down at the keyboard at a prescribed time. Start typing a short speech or poem you know by heart Type it fast, repeatedly, by touch typing.

You don’t have to create. Let the “Auto Hard Typing” engage. As you get bored, you’ll automatically start creating.

No matter what the genre, every novel needs suspense. Delay any sense of resolution as long as you can to keep readers reading. Give them the feeling of enjoyable uncertainty and anticipation. #amwriting #writetip #suspense #WritingCommunity

#Writetip: There is no rule that says you have to start at chapter 1. If you look at your outline and see that you feel really inspired by chapter 6, then start there. You can write all out of order and then edit it to fix it later.

#Writetip: Don't rush the chemistry between your lead characters. But there are times when you can put your characters into a dramatic situation that accelerates that. But then they will have doubts. Deal with it. Write that journey to love and trust.

You needn't choose between outlining or writing first. Outline what you can. Then write scenes from the outline.
The scenes will inspire new outline, and so on.

#Writetip: I’m all for the slow burn, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t have strong emotions of some kind from the beginning. Enemies to lovers often have strong sparks when they first meet, just not of the romantic kind.

Choosing your point-of-view character (or characters) is vital to telling your story and should answer the question: Whose story is this? #amwriting #novels #writetip #character #pointofview #WritingCommunity

#Writetip: I often say you need to make time to write a little every day, but the truth is that life is busy and it’s not always as simple as setting aside time or prioritizing your dreams. What I will say is aim for a little every day and then make the most of the time you DO carve out.

Try this:

Sit at your keyboard. Type a passage you know by heart as fast and as many times as you can. No creating, just get fingers moving. After a few rounds of that, your mind will automatically start writing.

I use the Gettysburg Address.

#Writetip: There is plenty of drama in the writing world. Some of it – like being against piracy – is worth getting involved in, but much of it isn’t. The more drama you get dragged into, the less time you spend working on your book. Use your energy wisely.

#Writetip: I don't think it's a good idea for writers to think too much about the publishing world. I sense in a good many books, even in books by the best writers, an anxiety about how it will do in the marketplace. You can feel it on the page, a sort of sweat of calculation. ELIZABETH HARDWICK
