Mostly new though, with tiny bits of Victoriana, à la Toronto. I’ve been in and out of Griffintown for a Bureau du design workshop and I leave the area as soon as I can. Mano Cornuto is great, but there is no ... grade school ? Montreal knows how to plan neighbourhoods. This is not one of them.

Garden suites are bizarrely overly-celebrated in Canada. We hear about Ana Bailão, Build Canada Homes’ new chief executive, as being “progressive” because—some claim—she got garden suites and laneway homes approved in Toronto. In Montreal, participants of a design workshop I’m in also love suites.
Toronto's garden suite reforms have only produced 143 units since 2022. It's mind-blowing, considering the city's housing crisis, and it's time to fight back. @meredithmartin.bsky.social would like to see some housing advocates attend the council meeting on Oct. 22 to fight for progress.

I will be giving a short talk on this work at the COLM Interplay workshop on Friday (also to appear at EMNLP)!

Will be in Montreal all week and excited to chat about LM interpretability + its interaction with human cognition and ling theory.
A key hypothesis in the history of linguistics is that different constructions share underlying structure. We take advantage of recent advances in mechanistic interpretability to test this hypothesis in Language Models.

New work with @kmahowald.bsky.social and @cgpotts.bsky.social!
