Strata is named for her stripes, which reminded Splash and me of desert varnish on Mesozoic rock layers in eastern Utah. Belly, to illustrate.

Here’s all the little cicadas together. Put a little varnish on them. Now I just need to cut them out, scan them, and get them in some frames.

The mediums I used to control flow and thickness were Venetian Medium and Italian Varnish (both made by Natural Pigments). For the ebauche (first layer), I used a modern medium, Galkyd Lite

Feeling very smug and proud of myself after cleaning, sanding, varnishing, second sanding and second varnishing my front door. Another sanding and varnishing tomorrow and I think I'll be done. I'm obviously a DIY goddess 😇!

The incredible Ganoderma tsugae, also known as hemlock varnish shelf on a large hemlock stump. The spores have dropped and is what gives this polypore mushroom the appearance of a thick layer of dust on top.
