Xenovember day 8! I’d always wanted to do something along the lines of the classic Kelley Jones cover to Aliens: Hive #4, and the nature of the (unpublished) Colonial Marines comics was a perfect opportunity to try that. Colours by @simongough2099.bsky.social

The selective silence of the media is stunning. Florida physicians are blamed for not speaking against Ladapo’s war on vaccines, yet our letter - signed by more than 1,200 verified physicians urging to keep the mandate - went unpublished by big media.

Chewbacca's unpublished memoir is an extremely rich source that has been far too neglected by most human historians, probably because they lack the necessary linguistic skills.

Academic publishing is seeing new publications ignoring your published work while being asked by reviewer2 to reference their unpublished work. 🤷♀️

Bitch, not only did we more or less invent following convoluted lore: we also have had to deal with the fact that the massive amount of that lore was unpublished in his lifetime and consisted of multiple unfinished drafts with differences ranging from the minor to the massive.

…the trash bc the govt unpublished the NOFO. That combination, and new local leadership, has put my job at risk. I will likely be unemployed in a few months.
I wonder if even those who are behind the destruction of science will look back on this and think it was worth it, just to own the libs. +

This reminds me of some 15 years ago when an entire Linux IRC channel helped a guy with figuring out the drivers for an old SCSI HDD that contained all the unpublished writings of his grandma. His only luck was that there was ONE guy in there with real retrocomputing skills that could guide him.

From winning the nobel prize for co-discovering the structure of DNA to becoming a pariah for his rank racist views towards Black people and overt sexism towards women. One can only hope before his death that he found time to reflect and change for better.

I didn't know Begley, but the prescience needed to write an obituary of a scientist she had followed, knowing that her colleagues would think of her, find it, and publish it if she died first, makes me wonder what else she had in unpublished drafts
A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.
Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."
Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

this comes up over and over (most notably in Town of Castle Rock), the police don't owe you shit. they don't owe you protection and they sure as hell aren't going to stop a man planning to kill his family.
