Take a look at your keyboard.

See the backslash key?

It’s the *only* punctuation character (not a glyph!) created in the computer age.

Just about every typographic symbol on your keyboard is centuries old.

This is the horror of becoming typographically aware honestly. Bad kerning will drive you absolutely insane on a daily basis. As a man who loves observing and understanding the craft of things, can I suggest Robert Bringhurst’s Elements of Typographic Style. Every craftsperson I know loves it.

Don't, be evil!

See, it was a typographic error.
NEW: Google is hosting a CBP app that uses facial recognition to identify immigrants, and tell local cops whether to contact ICE about the person, while also removing apps designed to warn communities about ICE officials.

Printing Error
Typographic fragments and painterly gestures that explores the beauty of the incomplete. The work is an ode to the flaw that becomes a mark.

can anyone explain what work the E– is doing in this sign? I assume this is some sort of typographic atavism e.g., E-mail but i'm hard pressed to understand it.

Well done Zohran! And of course the real victor of the day - typography.

The cover has arrived! Emotionography!
Emotions studied as they’re done in interaction - displayed, taken up, used.

For Sohrab, I have a very simple model: it's typographic attraction
🙃
I continue to be perplexed by the trajectory of pro and anti Trump/MAGA conservatives
Mamdani: "Hey, I'm going to do free buses and build low-income housing and connect with my Jewish constituents here instead of visiting Israel."

The online Right: "MUHAMMAD JIHAD ISLAM TROTSKY SHARIAH"

I don’t have the time/energy but you can draw a thematic straight line between the 8.5x11 printout travesty and the quietly radical typographic success of the Mamdani campaign www.curbed.com/article/zohr...

TIL "Asterism"

In typography, an asterism, ⁂, is a typographic symbol consisting of three asterisks placed in a triangle. Useful for, say, separator scene breaks.

Making typographic animations with spacetypegenerator.com/flash is an excellent way to procrastinate when there is actual work to be done. Here's a quote from Edgar Allan Poe.

The reasoning presented for ‘one seven’ is as a nod to the Pentax 67 (which, the choice of 17x24 instead of the common 18x24 seems to have been purposeful so they could make the typographic nod to that) which is said ‘six-seven’ but used to be 6x7 which explains that more

Getting back into the swing of things with some recent work.

Wanted to try some typographic designs based on the first two Beatles songs on their first album. Cause why not.

Don't tell the book historians, but subword tokenization is first and foremost a typographic procedure
The project that started my whitespace obsession... #EMNLP2025

While we've all been worrying about tokenizers, lurking in the background has been the preprocessing *before* tokenization. Poems break standard HTML-to-text linearization systems, and we find that multimodal models aren't a solution.
