The ebook edition of House of Leaves is terrifying. Imagine trying to get all that wild typesetting to render properly in every ereader. Brrrr. No thank you

BLURRY TYPESETTING IS THE EVIL CONSPIRACY OF OUR TIMES.
i know why kids today cant read, and it's a simple barrier to entry problem:

when i was younger, words were printed clearly so anyone could see them.
now that i'm old they print all the words blurry on purpose so you need special glasses to see them.

When typesetting an individual's last words, indicate the death rattle with a comma-ellipsis: "I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country,,,"

What beautiful copy and typesetting. We’re truly living in a golden age of online advertising…

wild last boss made it three episodes before getting kicked back to the no-more-typesetting zone

absolute clown company

If they're overly heavy I might be careful. Lead, antimony and tin are apparently a common alloy in typesetting according to Google. Probably fine if you use simple protection. Good score!

i promise, i will never again ask myself how a typo has ended up undetected in a published paper. it was probably detected 3 times but the typesetting software refused to acknowledge any changes.

And the fact that these subtitles with actual typesetting were made beforehand is one of the main reasons why we can't trust them as a sign of Crunchyroll changing course for good. They could just be trying to control the backlash for now while just delaying their typesetting-killing plans for later

🚨 a second show with typesetting has hit the crunchy towers 🚨
November 3, 2025 at 5:50 PM
So while we have seen some shows on Crunchyroll get updated with better subtitles, I would like to remind everyone that many shows haven't. I also reached out to some insiders, and so far there has been no clear internal communication about changing course back to comprehensive typesetting either.

Don’t these people have spellcheck?!? It’s not like they have typesetting by hand anymore!

Typesetting things I enjoy: shaping text around drop caps

i laid out the glyphs in their ascii order and will index each x coordinate in an array. i should be able to script raster typesetting and add more fonts over time.

Ok I'm not a politics guy. But what I do care a lot about is fonts and design.

So what sticks out to me about Zohran is just look at that typesetting and design. It feels friendly. It feels homely. It is the complete opposite of the bland clean political branding we're used to.

american fujo is going to be the biggest project i've done yet. at LEAST over 300 pages of yaoi theory goodness......... and alexis is still typesetting.

I continue to be surprised by the total flow state I still get from letterpress typesetting & Vandercook printing. I can still do 11+ hours & only go home bc it's late, or to not hog a press (ignoring my legs/feet hurting from all the standing; sitting breaks meaning pausing).

I love latex (typesetting)

It's been another big month, including my first time volunteering at Wimbledon BookFest, which I loved.

I also worked on a variety of books and finished a CPD course with Small Business Britain.

November contains a history book and more CPD. I'm looking forward to it!

Might be simple, but I love it. Art by Lane Faglie, typesetting by myself. A haunted house over a century and the experiences of its inhabitants.

Really happy with how many comments I've been getting about people enjoying the (wait for it) typesetting and formatting of my article about Crunchyroll's lack of the same in subs and how it kept them engaged despite the long length

It's almost like presentation quality really matters or something!
October 30, 2025 at 11:06 AM
@crunchyroll.com if you are listening, you are no longer Crunchyroll as of this change to typesetting and your CEO's lust for AI translations. You are just Funimation in a skin suit. Unless Funi changes their disrespectful corporate ways or you rebel internally, you won't get a dime more from me.

MediaOCD has the best typesetting on disc, no questions asked.
Well, at least some of us are still using Aegisub...

This is a brilliantly thorough, educated, and confident analysis of the situation. Thank you for caring about quality typesetting in the first place—since it often feels “invisible” when done well, I reckon many viewers are only now understanding what we’ve lost.
