Bradford pear is an invasive species and doesn’t display the character of say cherry but it turns beautifully wet or dry. It is a treat to work with. Though not particularly glamorous it can be quite handsome.

There are several rewarding moments while turning but this part is the most fun. For those interested I’m using a 5/8” bowl gouge with a 40/40 grind, lathe at 1000rpm and f:8. The bowl blank is about 11”. #bowlturning #turningbowls #woodbowls #turningwoodbowls #woodturning #turningwood

Cherry wood shallow bowl. 12” x 3.5”.
The piece of wood this was turned from was pretty funky and this piece came close to ending up in the designer firewood bin a couple of times. Sleeping on it can help. #woodbowl #woodbowls #woodenbowls #woodturning #turningwood

Another hollow form. This one inspired by early Native American pottery. The wood had been sitting in the scrap pile on the side of the house for a couple of years. Approximately 6.5” x 6”.

With a wall thickness of about 1/8” it’s a little delicate and when placed in the sun light in the correct orientation it becomes translucent and glows. 10.25”x3.5” ambrosia maple. #woodbowl #woodbowlturning #turningbowls #turningwood
