This is four hours of the big, beautiful galaxy M33 in Triangulum. Eight-ten would be better. I might be able to get another four or five tonight, but I'm not sure what the weather will do. After tonight, I'm very sure--clouds and rain. #astronomy #astrophotography

It's been 3 years since I had a crack at this one - #Messier33 or the #Triangulum Galaxy. Last night I caught this for an hour. One of the three biggies in our Local Group of galaxies, alongside Milky Way and Andromeda, M31. Just about fits my field of view.

Triangulum Galaxy (M33) 2.73 Mly away in the constellation Triangulum. It contains roughly 40 billion stars and is the 3rd largest galaxy in our local group behind the Milky Way and Andromeda (M31) galaxys

The galaxy cutting dramatically across the frame of this NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope image is a slightly warped dwarf galaxy known as UGC1281. Seen here from an edge-on perspective, this galaxy lies roughly 18 million light-years away in the constellation of Triangulum (The Triangle). The bright companion to the lower left of UGC 1281 is the small galaxy PGC 6700, officially known as 2MASX J01493473+3234464. Other prominent stars belonging to our own galaxy, the Milky Way, and more distant galaxies can be seen scattered throughout the sky. The side-on view we have of UGC 1281 makes it a perfect candidate for studies into how gas is distributed within galactic halos — the roughly spherical regions of diffuse gas extending outwards from a galaxy’s center. Astronomers have studied this galaxy to see how its gas vertically extends out from its central plane, and found it to be a quite typical dwarf galaxy. This could be the poster child of low surface brightness galaxies if the Triangulum Galaxy (M33) didn't take that place already. I find it to be exceptionally diffuse, even more so than M33, but it also has a clear spiral structure and is also large enough that amateurs can also easily observe it. A lot of LSBs are simple irregular dwarfs amounting to nothing more than the faintest of nondescript smudges. See: Rob Gendler's, James Foster's, and Bernd Flach-Wilken's. There are more but I just picked the first three in the result list. Hubble's version provides a lot of detail but the amateur images are perhaps more pleasant to view, capturing the whole galaxy and not being riddled with cosmic rays and noise like this image. I actually tried working on these datasets a long time ago thinking it was some glorious, missed spiral galaxy in the archive because the thumbnails at the HLA (Hubble Legacy Archive) are deceptively bright. When you open the FITS file expecting this grand design to illuminate your screen, it's a pretty big letdown to be confronted with this strange, dim creature. Now that I understand low surface brightness galaxies a little better, I am interested in them and I want to share them with everyone so it was time to revisit the data. It's still a bit ugly but it's not the galaxy's fault. There just aren't enough exposures to easily remove the cosmic rays and it's really quite noisy as well because of this. There's not much that can be done to fix the noise...

This is the Triangulum Galaxy is a Spiral Galaxy taken with 18mm Canon lens. It's half the size of the Milky Way and is also known as Messier 33. Approximately 2.7 to 3 million light years from earth.

So much unknown in space yet so many names for one object makes it confusing.

Had a bit of time before cloud cover rolled in tonight, so I grabbed a few shots of the moon and the Triangulum Galaxy. The Triangulum Galaxy is the third largest galaxy in our Local Group, after the Andromeda Galaxy and the Milky Way.

Babysterne sehen rosa aus. Eigentlich sind gar nicht die jungen Sterne selbst rosa, aber sie erzeugen UV-Licht, das kosmisches Gas ionisiert, und das leuchtet dann prächtig pink. Daher erkennt man Gegenden aktiver Sternenentstehung in fernen Galaxien am rosa Schein.

The ancient universal primordial soup generated numerous archaic life forms over a very long period of time. Unfortunately, this Archaid is very territorial and does not particularly desire contact with others. For 16 billion years, he has been content with a star supercluster in the Triangulum galaxy, where he allows no one else to approach. There he lives and feeds on stars and habited worlds, and, of course, destroys anyone who somehow tries to penetrate his abode.

M33 is the third large spiral galaxy in our Local Group of about 50 galaxies. The other two are M31 (the largest) and our own Milky Way Galaxy (in the middle for size). #astronomy

USS Triangulum (NCC-82115), a Galathea-class science vessel (my own design). The Galathea-class is a demilitarized Defiant variant. When the Dominion War ended there were Defiants in various states of completion. Some were retrofitted to this specification.
