A seemingly double-leaf window reveals the treetops of the edge of a mixed forest, lit by the low morning sun. Two conifers of different sizes are flanked by beeches clad in gold, orange and yellow. Light gray lichens have taken root on sturdy side branches. Green foliage is also visible. A patch of white-grey sky can be seen. In reality, the window is only a single-leaf window, opened just enough for its reflection to appear as part of a second leaf. The bottom edge of the picture looks as if black velvet has been draped in waves beneath the window, but it's a down sleeping bag with a black polyester outer layer. I needed it to fix the window perpendicular to the frame. The window frame is white and not glossy black! Thanks to an exposure time of 1/200 s and an aperture of 1/16, everything appears dark except for the sunny forest. Therefore, the window is framed by darkness.

紅葉の様子を見に行ったが葉がだいぶ落ちていて、残った葉は先に落ちた葉の陰になっていたたためかまだ緑色だった
やや遅かったかもしれない

A copper beech tree from below, which landed in a paved driveway. You can see parts of the weather side, which are covered in lush green moss and light gray lichen. Moss and higher green plants—this is to be understood both literally and biologically—have taken root in some places between the gray stones. The beech tree has only a few leaves left; most of the foliage has spread around the tree. I took this photo from the front door. At the bottom left of the picture, you can see what looks like a blue-green fender, and at the right edge of the picture, next to a pile of firewood, there are more beech trees. No longer in the picture is a beech tree that could easily have been damaged. In short: We were really lucky."

岡山県真庭市 栗原の四本柳

備中川の岸辺に立つマルバヤナギの古木群のうち最も大きいと思われるのが写真の個体
柳は芯が腐朽しやすいのかある程度のサイズと古さのものは皮だけで立っている事も多いが、主幹を失いつつも芽出しは旺盛で形を大きく変えながら生きていくのだろうと感じた

岡山県真庭市 熊野神社の五本杉

真庭市から津山へ向かう道の脇に入った高台の神社に五本杉の巨木があり、石段のすぐ横にいるのが最大個体
おそらく樹齢も最も古く筋張った幹の拝殿側は中空だが、見上げるような素晴らしい樹高を未だ維持している
なお五本杉と言いつつ内1つは枯死したようで切り株だけになっている

岡山県久米郡美咲町 幻住寺のスダジイ

幻住寺(げんじゅうじ)とは何やら漫画に出てきそうなネーミングの寺だが、後醍醐天皇ゆかりの由緒ある寺でかなりの山の上にあり裏手の森が自然保護区域になっている。その森に入る坂を越えてすぐのところにこのスダジイが立っており、幹周はスダジイとしてはやや細いものの放射状の樹冠を大きく広げた堂々とした樹形が美しく森の主といった風格がある。
やや遅い時間帯だったため深入りしなかったが看板によればアカガシの巨木などもあるそうで再訪の機会があれば探ってみたい。
