The water has once again taken the land. I knew it would rain but it got out of hand. Flip islands water for days and nights. My whole house is now filled with termites. My furry found found a clever way to travel from here to there. He stayed out of the rain but now he's in the swamps over there.

Siphon the heat of the day

"Shadowcast" has such fresh imagery. there's much warmth throughout and the landscapes and surroundings are rich with abundant detail. there is also a sense of safety and beauty and illumination in many forms. then, the poem takes a turn and not just in tone. sudden, surprising moments reflect a coolness in temperature and emotion. the poem becomes a meditation on opposites. that final image of "dunes of dust" is so striking. it takes us a long way from the glow and welcome heat that was introduced at the beginning.

Pages 8 and 9:

Drawn in the scribble way are two elephants leaning on each other. To the right it says “Elephants often lift and support hurt friends in their herd by having them lean on each other and give support.” The background is the same.

Pages 10 and 11:

says in a speech bubble “we’ve got a bug down we need a nurse” coming out of a scribbly termite mound. To the right it says “termite colonies supposedly even have “nurses” who groom sick termites to keep them healthy from pathogens. This is on the same background as before.

Pages 12 and 13:

Says in written text “ With Canadian geese flocks have been seen traveling with injured members during migration rather than just abandoning them.

On the next page it says in written text “ AIRLIFT (not based on real life just thought it was cute)” and below it drawn in my scribble way was two Canadian geese flying with their injured comrades in a sling between them. This is on the same background as before.

Pages 14 and 15:

In written cursive across both pages it says “So maybe I should just chill and accept the help offered to me by loved ones and stop obsessing over “the fact” I’m a burden and everyone must resent me because of it. Why can’t I just believe everyone when they say I’m not a burden? Why can’t I get stupid societal norms out of my head? Why do I have to have a broken OCD riddled brain I hate?” This is on the same background as before.

Happy World Anteater Day! Anteaters are a keystone species. They consume large amounts of ants and termites, which, left unchecked, explode and upset the balance of the local ecosystem and cause soil degradation. Anteaters not only prevent this, they aerate the soil as they move from mound to mound.

The person tenting our house for termites told me it takes a much greater concentration of pesticide to kill bedbugs -- and when you tent for termites, you have to specially seal all the food in your house and stay out for days. Not controlling release of pesticides is indeed dangerous.
