My Dad's brother, Robin, sadly died on Dec 20th. This pic is of three brothers - my Dad, Robin, Douglas - in Springburn Glasgow, a couple of years before the family emigrated to Toronto in 1953. All three of them are gone now.

Prior to enacting the regulations, the architect Bernhard Weick predicted that the new regulations would lower living standards of tenements, counter to the stated goal of the new regulations, while also increasing the cost of housing. This turned out to be true and the developers were blamed.

Stephanstraße 5, a six-story, L-shaped point access block with 2 stairs was revised to meet the regulations. With new height limits of 22 m and 5 floors, Stephanstraße 26 added a second wing, a third stair, and reduced the size of the units to still meet the pro forma and continue construction.

Take houses; we look at a victorian mansion, but forget the slums & tenements that fell down and had to be replaced.
