It funded science too. Grand Rapids pertussis vaccine trials moved forward in the 1930s because of WPA funding for nurses and technicians.
you ever think about the works progress administration? I sure do. I wish that was a thing now. I would be so glad to contribute my labor to like. A random ass local bridge

I am in disbelief, I just had the easiest, fastest blood drawing in my life
Almost every time I've had lab work done, the technicians struggled considerably, and I've long thought the problem was me (like, my veins are too hidden, arms too fat, etc)
But no the problem really was the PHLEBOTOMISTS

Of course, hairdressers, nail technicians, waxers, etc can't just work faster either. But they're allowed to put their prices up.
For this week's @theobserveruk.bsky.social I've written about one of my favourite topics: the productivity of the public sector, how it's measured, why it tends to grow less quickly than productivity in the private sector, and what it means for policy.

I swear didn’t mean to but first thing I did was take the seat apart. Head rest was stuck, tried to wiggle it free, instead it came loose immediately. Talgo technicians were quick to snapshot back into place.

Three store visits
Seven phone calls with technicians
Three promised modem shipments that never arrived
One transphobic employee
One Uber ride
One bus ride
Later
I finally have fucking home internet again. Which is great since I work from home.

Good day to remember that science is a social process and that focusing on the Great Men of Science is as reactionary as focusing on the Great Men of History. Science is made by laboratory assistants and instrument technicians as much as it is by the Nobel laureates

They’re part of Trump’s deportation obsession. It’s not even all of ICE that’s getting paid. Just the armed officers. Administrative specialists, technicians, etc., are continuing to work without pay. The same is true at CBP. Ultimately, cruelty is the reason.

If the bomb technicians of our society, the people who've endured the fallout time and time again when things fall apart, tell you how and why a candidate is not good for them, and thus a threat to liberty for all, believe them.

#OTD 1867, Marie Curie was born.
During WWI, Curie created a vehicle that contained a hospital bed, a generator, an X-ray machine and photographic darkroom equipment. These “petite Curies" (below) could be driven right up to the Front. Curie also helped train 150 women as radiology technicians.

Most of them do not need help getting connected to actors or musicians or technicians. Chances are they're excited to make art *with their friends*.
What fiction podcasters actually need help with - the thing that stops shows from being made - is lack of budget.
Budget to pay for all of the above.

Why are ICE agents being paid during the shutdown, but not air traffic controllers? 🤨

Reminds me of a previous bubble:
I want to remind everyone that while air traffic controllers are the most obvious FAA employees, there are tens of thousands more, including the technicians who keep ATC operating, the inspectors on the ground at air carriers & cargo operators, etc. who are vital to air safety.
We. Need. Them. All.
We. Need. Them. All.

Donating plasma with my nephew this afternoon. Was wearing my Mouthy Mooch t-shirt and one of the technicians commented that she liked it.
So I had to explain the Mouthy Renegade Writer thing. She told me she appreciated my fight against Trump.
I think I have a new fan. 😁

Trump was eviscerated by a federal court judge for refusing to obey his order to reverse layoffs at the Voice of America. For the second time, the judge ordered the VOA to rehire the staff. Trump moved to lay off 532 staff at the agency. All but three radio broadcast technicians were fired.
