#techlash
That this comes at a time where the public as a whole has become far more cynical regarding the Tech industry - the so-called "techlash" - has only intensified their rage and frustration.

They were SUPPOSED to be immortal god-kings! Why is this happening?!

"Techlash", I like it.

I don't think people dislike tech. They just shouldn't have to subsidize it, be it electricity, water, or money benefits. Along with the increase risk from pollution and fire hazards.

Techlash was just the beta version.

In 2018 people started talking about a "techlash" against Silicon Valley. The word kind of disappeared, but the anger is only increasing, especially now with AI being shoved down everyone's throats.

This could become a real political movement.

The Real Techlash Is Coming
Anger at the tech companies is growing, and it could become a genuine political movement.

i used to tell people I was such a social outcast, i was bullied in COMPUTER CAMP. of all places.

in the 2010s I started having to explain to people that computer camp wasn't for the cool kids. everyone suddenly decided that tech was cool.

then the techlash etc.

really good article from heatmap

FINALLY seeing the techlash against AI
(I've been fighting this from the jump)

I think the tech industry pissed people off endlessly, shoved AI into everything, and then inadvertently gave people a physical thing they could focus their anger on.
Data center fights are already activating so many young people on the left.

One activist fighting data centers in Texas told me he started getting involved in the opposition because he didn’t have “the clout” to stop “the genocide” in Gaza, but he could maybe stop the data centers… @heatmap.news

my latest: i spent weeks investigating how frustrations about data centers were about to swallow american politics…

…and then the 2025 election happened, proving the electoral impacts are already here.

read and share my deep dive on the bipartisan AI techlash shaping our elections before our eyes!

This essay is one of the first I’ve seen to grapple with the intersection of the burgeoning “techlash” with “abundance” but gets the political valence backwards. brinklindsey.substack.com/p/abundance-...

Emma Thompson's had ENOUGH of AI! 🤬 "Will you f--k off?!" she reportedly yelled. Is she right to be furious, or is this just Luddite rage?

I have never seen him as an "AI" commentator–his original newsletter stuff was mostly about how RTO efforts were not backed up by productivity data, and sensible anti-crypto / enshittification / techlash stuff. IMO it's just the same stuff he was doing and then in 2023 "AI" became the big rot vector

This is what he's been saying for years. Man. Didn't Jain do some stupid "techlash" signaling here too

Claim: There will be a massive right-wing techlash that'll intensify in the next couple of years and tech CEOs betting on right wingers will end up looking like fools

“A Pew Research study found roughly one-third of Americans get their news from Facebook.”

Roughly a third of population are hard core MAGA. Coincidence?
