Thanks to @booktrib.bsky.social for the chance to talk about five books dealing with change in the world & how we live with that change, each of which changed how I wrote my own novel, Exo.

That's horrible, trade Tade. I'm so sorry you and so many others had to deal with this.

And it seems like this should be in the news.

Of non-fiction: Said's Orientalism. It's like everything became clear all of a sudden. Difficult read for teenage me but so worth it.

Of fiction: Tade Thompson's Rosewater. I'd been in a rut and because of depression couldn't enjoy anything at all. But one sentence in it ("I fucking hate Ayn Rand")
performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!

tell me about a book that changed you

for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"

Tade Thompson's Rosewater trilogy plays with this a bit and it is the first time I have really considered it, conceptually. very much changed the way I considered my body, for the better!, and definitely interested in reading more people explore it

😂 that’s great about the boilermaker. When I met @tade-kuu-mushi.bsky.social I showed him that I put his phone number on my phone with Boilermaker as his last name. 😆

I’ve never steamed eggs before. 😯 And thank you for believing in me.

Today in "I finally read that book from my TBR pile and it was great", we have The Murders of Molly Southborne by Tade Thompson. I loved his Rosewater series, and I'd bought Murder years ago, just never read it. Friends, it's a fucking great novella. Looking forward to the sequels.
