I’m so blessed to have a supercomputer in my pocket that tells the secret police exactly where to find me at any given moment. Kings! We live better than kings!

Many thanks to the folks at the San Diego Supercomputer Center for highlighting our project!
SDSC-housed Protein Data Bank Brings Molecules Up to Size
Molecules — the unseen architects that form everything from the DNA in your cells to the planets in distant galaxies, crafting the very fabric of reality while remaining too small for the human eye to glimpse. But thanks to the Protein Data Bank we can now “see” these hidden wonders.

Simon's fed up with his janky old computer - but luckily, Lewis has just the solution. He's been working on a supercomputer, and the best way to test it... is to put Simon inside?!
Enjoy episode 4 of YogLabs 2, 'Real Time Simon', out now!

In a world where we’re so entangled with technology, it’s so crazy to think that people deny science. You have supercomputer in your pocket.

So my favorite lolwtf Disney Animation tech story that I've learned is that for a period in the 90s, the studio was using a Cray J90 supercomputer as a fileserver (which sounds absurd but made sense at the time due to some very specific/narrow requirements the studio had). (1/3)

“Okay, so we’re paying the troops extra, right? You know, the guys with the firearms?”
“Nope! We’re not paying them either.”
“Uh…sir. What’s your plan?”
“MAGIC SUPERCOMPUTER!!!”

HP Labs once built a broken supercomputer…on purpose.
Teramac had over 220,000 Hardware Defects.
The question was; can you make a reliable computer out of *known* bad parts?
It was a phenomenal software problem to route around the faults:

They forget that $500 entry level Apple phone is thousands of times faster than the top of the line $10,000,000 Cray Y-MP Supercomputer of 1990. It weighed 2,500 lbs, needed its own apartment and climate control, and required 30-50kW of power vice Apple's 6 oz and 2-5 watts fitting in your pocket.

“So, grandpa, the low point of technology was around 2015 or so when everyone had the power of a supercomputer in their pocket, the ability to communicate instantly with almost anyone and it was mostly used to post cat pictures and get into arguments?”
