Yes, they're in Hanover County VA now and will continue northward through Caroline and Spotsylvania tomorrow. I have half a mind to drive down to Arlington when they come through there but I don't want to be in the crowds.

I suspect the largest part of the explanation is institutional culture- there are some instances, like the Union 2nd corps at... Spotsylvania, if I recall correctly, where units refused en masse to carry out an attack but continued to maintain discipline as units.
